From the hometown of the late James Brown emerges the rock ‘n roll of NoStar, an Augusta, Ga trio with influences spanning from Soundgarden and Jeff Buckley to Sonic Youth, The Smiths, and Van Morrison.
NoStar’s members, Carey Murdock, David Hanna, and Taylor Ferguson, grew up playing music together in their church’s high school band. After four years of playing twice a week there, they left upon graduation and went their separate ways. Two years later, Carey, with a burgeoning notebook of original songs, began trying out musicians for a new band and not surprisingly, Taylor and David were the perfect fit.
Taking their name from a Sonic Youth album, they began performing regularly in Augusta and Athens and throughout the Southeast making trips to Atlanta, Greenville, and Columbia so they could take/bring their music to new listeners. With close to 50 live shows under their belt as NoStar, they are set to independently release their anticipated first album of all original material in January 2009.
NoStar is currently making plans to bring their live show to both bars and festivals all over the Eastern US once the album is released as they work to continue building a dedicated fanbase with which they can stay connected to. NoStar’s hope is to simply give back to music what it has given to them, and with their many live shows and their upcoming album, they are well on their way.
